Relaxing Bath

Well, while in California we have all been ordered to shelter in place, I have been having some fun making some wall hangings for family and friends using one of my all time favorite Digital Stamp store, The Paper Shelter’s adorable digital stamps.  This one is called:   Relaxing Bath

First of all if you are not familiar with digital stamps, then let me tell you why I love them and use them more then traditional stamps.  When you buy an image you get the colored image, the black and white line image (to color yourself), a background with the featured image on it or you can choose to print out the feature image and the background separately, as I did for this project.  The average cost is around $3.00!  You don’t have to store them in your craft room because you store them on your computer.  You can also print them out in any size!  So let’s make some cute art to frame!

The Steps:

Step 1:  Print out the colored version of the background and the featured image that goes with it on white cardstock.  Cut the featured image out using a nested squares die set.  I used Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1118 – Stitched Squares

Step 2:  Make a frame using Elizabeth Craft Designs: Happy Frame XL.  I chose to use a purple cardstock for this step so that the bath accessories would stand out.  Here’s the link to the assembly video: Happy Frame Assembly video

Step 3:  I used some Karen Burniston’s die sets such as the little ducks, bubbles and wine set.  I used Silhouette files for the “slippers, soap, bath brush and yellow bottle of bubble bath.

Step 4:  Trim the background to the same size as the frame.  (if you measure 1″ from each side of the background and trim off the excess, then the printed background should be the exact size of the assembled frame (8″ square).  Add double sided adhesive to all four edges of the trimmed background and attach to the backside of the frame.

Step 5:  Add the bath accessories to the frame as shown.  I chose a white 5/8″ wide ribbon to hang the finished project with.  I tied a bow and left enough ribbon hanging from the bow to attach to the back at the length I felt would look good.  Tape the two hanging pcs. to the back of the project.  Then cut a 8″sq. of white cardstock and attach to the back of the project to cover the ends of the bow and make a clean backside.

Step 6:  On the back of the project I attached Elizabeth Craft Designs: Lace Pocket

This step is optional, but this is where I wrote a little note about why I chose this particular image for this project for the recipient, but also some things I love about them.

Better Days to come card

Hi Crazy4Challenges fans!  I hope everyone is staying healthy during this Covid 19 thing!  I don’t know about you, but being forced to stay home in my craft room….well,  I’ve had worse things happen.  But then again, none of my loved ones has been infected.  So my   prayers go out to those of you who have been more personally affected.  It’s interesting that today’s challenge is to put rain or a rainbow on your card this week.  We’ve had a good amount of rain in CA this week!

The Steps:

Step 1:  I stenciled the rain drops on a piece of white cardstock with blue ink.  Next I cut out a square from this stenciled white cardstock using a nested square die set.

Step 2:  Using a Pink and Main stamp called “Puddles”, I stamped the little girl out twice  Once on white card stock and again on yellow cardstock with a tiny white heart print on it.

Step 3:  I colored the stamped image on white cardstock with Copic Markers and added clear lacquer to the puddle area.  Then I “fussy cut” out the Umbrella and Hat out from the stamped yellow cardstock and glued it onto the Copic colored image.  Then I “fussy cut” out the entire image after the lacquer was dry.

Step 4:  I cut out two grass pieces. cloud and the little yellow flowers from an older couple of Karen Burniston die sets called “The All Season Tree” and “The Garden Bench”.

Step 5:  I cut a scalloped square mat for the finished scene piece from light blue cardstock from a nested set by Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Step 6:  I created the sentiment on my computer and cut it out with a nest fishtail die set.

Step 7:  Create a base card by scoring an 8.5″ x11″ pc. of white cardstock and folding over for a tent fold card.  Trim down to 5″ x 5″.  Now adhere the finished little rain scene to the base card.

Autism Awareness Month

Inside of the card:

Well, hello fellow crafty friends.  With everyone, everywhere, dealing with the Pandemic crisis, when has there been a better time to knuckle down into the craft room!  Plus, this week’s challenge is for such a good cause.  Because April is Autism Awareness Month, the challenge is to use the Autism Logo as your inspiration.  Read the challenge and see the logo here: Crazy4Challenges

I decided to use the challenge literally and make a card for someone with Autism.  My youngest daughter has a friend who has a family member with Autism.

The Steps:

Step 1:  This is the painful step!  Using the four colors in the Logo, I cut strips that measure 1/2″ x 11″ from each color twice. Then cut the strips in half. Note: Precision cutting is important. If you look at the front of my card,  you’ll see what I couldn’t see, because it is so minimal. The white showing through the red and blue stripes under the “you are strong” tag.

Step 2:  Cut a rectangle from white cardstock that measures 5.5″ x 6″.  Cut a piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive the same size.  Lay the white cardstock rectangle over the adhesive by removing the protective layer and matching up corners.  You can also glue the strips in place.  In hind site, I think glue would have been easier.  But in either case, this is where you pain painstakingly lay the strips in place as seen above.

Step 3:  I created the 3 sentiments on my computer.  I printed them on white cardstock and cut them with a fishtail banner set from Gina Marie Designs:Step 4: Adhere the 3 fishtail sentiments as shown.

Step 5:  Create a base card by creating the sentiment inside on your computer and printing out onto white cardstock.  Then scoring the printed piece of cardstock at 5.5″ and fold over.  Trim to 5.5″ 6.5″.  Cut a rectangle from Black cardstock that measures 5.5′ x 6.5″.  Adhere to the base card.

Step 6:  Adhere the finished step 2 centered onto the black rectangle and then adhere this sandwhich onto the base care.

Cute Easter Card

The third week of every month is a sketch challenge!  It’s always a favorite challenge for me.  Here’s the link to the sketch and all twelve inspiration cards made by the design team:   Crazy4Challenges  

For some reason, I’ve been in a mood  to color and watch TV when I’m not working. So because Easter is right around the corner, I decided to start making a few Easter themed cards.  This adorable stamp by Pink & Main is called “Bunny Costume“.  Unfortunately it has been discontinued.  It’s too bad because it is one I pull out every year!

The Steps:

Step 1:  Stamp something that will be the focus of the card.  Color and cut the image out.  I used Copic Markers.  I also stamped the Easter Eggs and the “chocolate Easter bunny” box.  After I colored them I fussy cut them out.  I applied clear Lacquer to the “bunny boxes”

Step 2:  I cut the image using Elizabeth Craft Designs: Stitched Nested Rectangles.

Step 3:  I cut the two yellow gingham 2″ squares using Elizabeth Craft Designs: Stitched Squares.  I hand cut the green and white polka dot rectangle.

Step 4:  My card is a 5.5″ square, so I made the base card by scoring an 11″ x 8.5″ piece of white cardstock at 5.5″.  Fold over for a tent fold and trim to a 5.5″ square..

Step 5: Adhere the yellow squares to the top front as in the sketch.  Adhere the green rectangle under the squares, and then the featured stamped rectangle on top, centered.  I then added some of the “fussy cut” bunny boxes and eggs as shown.  The two grass pieces I tucked them into were left overs from another project. White on White

This week’s challenge over at: Crazy4Challenges  the challenge is to make a white on white card.  I was in the mood to make something floral so I decided to make white rose and one of my favorite embossing folders by Spellbinders:

The Steps:

Step 1:  First cut a pc. of white cardstock into a rectangle that measures 5.25″ x 7″.  Put this rectangle into the embossing folder and run through your cutter/embossing machine.

Step 2:  Create a base card by scoring an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of white cardstock at 5.5″  Fold for a book fold,  Adhere step 1 to the front of the base card.

Step 3:  Make 3 roses and their leaves from white cardstock.  If you have never tried making paper realistic flowers by Susan Tierney Cockburn, here is the tutorial video for making these exact roses: Susan’s Rose 1 video tutorial

I constructed my roses directly onto the embossed folder layer on the front of the card making sure the finished arrangement would be centered into the oval.

Step 4:  I used a die for the sentiment that I honestly don’t know the manufacturer’s name, but use it often for sympathy cards. I bought on HSN yrs. ago and is a set of “word” dies. The butterfly is from Elizabeth Craft Designs, but is discontinued.

Honor those who served!

This week’s challenge over at:  Crazy4Challenges,  the challenge is to put a woman on your card in honor of International Women’s Day!  I chose to use a digital stamp from From: FaeryInk   My granddaughter, Kristie, didn’t serve in the  U. S. Army, but did serve as a Sailor in the U. S. Navy!  She served two tours.  This challenge gave me an opportunity to honor her.  She is quite the young lady.  She came back safe and now has adopted a little girl.  I couldn’t be prouder!

The Steps:

Step 1:  Download, size and print out the digital stamp onto white cardstock.  Then color the image.  I used Copic Markers.

Step 2:  Using: 1537 -Stitched Hexagons by Elizabeth Craft Designs, cut out the now colored image.  Then using one size larger die from the same set,  Cut a larger hexagon from red glitter cardstock and adhere the image hexagon to it, centered.

Step 3:   Make a base card by scoring an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of white cardstock at 5.5″.  Fold over for a tent fold and trim to 5.5″ x 5.5″.  Cut a mat from navy Star cardstock that measures the same size as the base card.  Adhere this to the front of the base card.

Step 4:  Adhere the image stack to the front of the base card centered.

Step 5:  Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1288 – Thanks cut from white cardstock.  Now adhere the “Thanks” sentiment as shown.  Here’s another look:

Celebrate!

Believe it or not on The Calendar of Days, it is National “Open a bottle” day!  So to honor this day, as the last week of my “Hostess” month this year, I am challenging all the crazies to make a card of “Celebration”.

The Steps:

Step 1:  I had Karen Burniston’s” Wine Charms so I decided to use this set for my card.  I cut all the pieces in this set from white cardstock then colored each piece with Copic Markers and assembled the bottles and glasses.  I didn’t use the grapes die.

Step 2: I cut the pieces for the S’mores from Karen Burnistons: Camping Charms from white cardstock and colored them with copic Markers.

Step 3:  Make a base card by scoring a piece of 8.5″ x 11″ pc. of white cardstock at 5.5″ on the long side.  Fold over for a tent fold and trim to 5″ x 7″.

Step 4:  Using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1125 – Ropes 1 I cut the straight rope 4 times from tan cardstock.

Step 5:  I created the sentiment in my computer, printed the two on tan cardstock. Then using Elizabeth Craft Designs: 1537 Stitched Hexagons I used the 3rd smallest die to cut them out making sure I made room for the charms.  Next I adhered the wine and camping charms as shown.

Step 6:  Cut a mat for the base front that measures 4.5″ x 6.5″.  I had this cork board look alike cardstock that I used. Adhere the mat to the card front and the hexgons.

Step 7:  I finished off the edges with the ECD : 1125 – Ropes 1  Here’s another quick look.

National Walk the Dog Day!

The sentiment inside says “Make it a Dog gone good day!”  So this week the challenge is to put a dog or any other kind of pet on your project this week!  You could even put a picture of your pet on the card.  I own a white dog that even my Vet has no idea what breed mix he is.  But whatever he is, he is the smartest, easiest going dog I’ve ever owned.  He knows the names of 25 or so of his dog toy’s!  Below is my Shelby with a raw hide roll.

The Steps:

Step 1:  The card measures 5.5″ x 5.5″ tent fold card.  So first cut a 5.5″ x 5.5″ square from white cardstock.  Then using Susan Tierney Cockburn’s “Clouds and Grass” stencil and Blue PanPastel I stenciled the clouds.

Step 2:  Make a tent fold card by scoring an 8.5″ x 11″ at 5.5″, fold over and trim to the finished size of a 5.5″ square.  Now adhere step 1 to the front of the base card.

Step 3:  Next, I used Karen Burniston’s “Buster the dog”,  Susan Tierney Cockburn’s Country Scapes – “The Woods 1” (the tree and bird house).  The grass edge is from Karen Burniston’s “Outdoor Edges – 3 die set” for the grass.  The “Happy Birthday” is from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  I cut and assembled all the elements and adhered them as shown:

A Lady Bug Hello

If you’re a follower, then you know I love a Sketch Challenge!

Over at: Crazy4Challenges   Every third Saturday is a sketch challenge!

I am the Hostess for February so this is the sketch I came up with.  I thought it would be pretty easy since you could make it any theme that you want.

The Steps:

Step 1:  Make the card base by choosing an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of cardstock and scoring it at  5.5″  along the long side.  Fold over for a book fold card and trim to  the finished size of 5.5″ x 7″.

Step 2:  I cut a strip of brown cardstock that measures 7″ x 5/8″ and adhered it to the base front 1/2″ from the folded edge of the base card front.  I added the leaves from a discontinued die set from ECD called Curvy Leaves.

Step 3:  The 3 squares are from die cutting the smallest square from: 1118 – Stitched Squares

Step 4:  The lady bugs are an Elizabeth Craft Designs discontinued die set.

Step 5:  The “Hello” sentiment is from: Lawn Fawn
